Art Deco Revisited

Sprung from a dream to modernize an outdated and ill-functioning kitchen, this project takes Glamour Art Nouveau to the next level. It was important that the kitchen serve as a space for cooking and entertaining, which proved challenging to fit both an island and dining area in only 235 square feet! In crafting a custom oval island, we maximized cabinetry storage, floor and countertop space simultaneously. It’s smooth edges in rich mahogany lend itself to our client’s flair for everything Art Deco. The true anchor of the kitchen, however, is the black cabinetry that adds depth to the overall color palette. It creates the perfect backdrop for custom deco-inspired brass hardware by Urban Metro. By contrast, the metalic golden hues of the Alyse Edwards backsplash introduce a dreamy softness to the space. The modern amenities were of course forefront in the design of this West Bloomfield kitchen. The two-toned Brizo Litze Faucet was pre-ordered months before its October 2017 production, and the custom wood hood contains a high-powered exhaust that is externally vented. The black stainless refrigerator, microwave oven and warming drawer are all state of the art and energy efficient. In lieu of a traditional table and chairs, we opted for a luxurious custom seated banquette that provides plenty of room for entertaining. The banquette’s built-in shelves complement our client’s antique glassware and beautifully frames the newly installed picture window. We think the striking brass chandelier and mauve velvet cushion warrants a speakeasy cocktail!
